Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension is established by Mumbai University under the guidance of Dr. Dilip Patel for making learning life long process.This department of Life - long learning and extension was established in our college in the year 2008 to sensitize the students towards socio- cultural realities . Since that year all the students who are enrolling for this program are getting the benefit of 10 additional marks, certificate and an opportunity to know the socio cultural realities through the extension activities .From its modest beginning in 2008 the no of students benefited from this program are increasing every year . Every year approximately 200 students are enrolled under DLLE unit of our college. The students participating in Extension work under this Department are entitled to the benefit of 10 additional marks on the satisfactory completion of 120 hours of work under various Extension work projects. Various types of Extension work projects are being offered by the department under the two different units. Students can opt for any one project and start the work and activity.
A. Vocational career oriented projects:
1.Career project: this project enables a student to learn the interview technique, method of collecting information and to know about the job market of the career being explored
2. Anna Poorna -yojana: this activity has been designed to encourage the students to try their hand at entering the field of small scale business.
3. The Industry Orientation Project: the industry orientation project is a vocational career oriented program for empowering students with marketable work skills so as to increase his/her employability.
4. Information Technology Project: enable the students to develop good knowledge in computers.
B. Community Oriented Projects:
5. Population Education Club: it widens the student’s mental horizon through beliefs and prejudices being overcome when exposed to socio cultural realities.
6. Status of women in society: to facilitate the students and college to obtain basic data about the status of women in the area.
7. National Institute of Open Schooling: to create awareness about the concept of open schooling. To spread the message of NIOS.
Students can opt different projects according to their choices and conduct the activities like survey, campaign, street play, presentation and interviews as per the requirement.
Besides these projects DLLE unit of Lala Lajpat Rai college conducts different activities every year .
Orientation programme
Orientation program is organized to orient the students about the different projects which are allotted by Mumbai university .This pogram is always graced by renowned personality in the field of social work or NGO .Projects are explained with the help of power point presentation .
Seminars
Seminar on career options . Environment protection or women empowerment are organized to guide and motivate the students. Resource persons from different related area are invited to share their expert knowledge from their expertise. .
Presentation competition
As per the requirement of projects our unit organizes presentation competitions for FY SY and TY all streams DLLE students. Students select any topic related to social issues and environment protection or women empowerment and make PPT presentation. Students are motivated by giving away certificates and prizes .
Independence day
Every year our students celebrate independence day by giving some social message through street play and speech. They take the topic for street play related to current problem like women empowerment, Road safety. Save environment, Child labour . This year they paid their homage to the army officers and soldiers by presenting the street play song and speech at Tardo police station .
NGO –visit
Every year our students visited to NGO. They conduct different activities as per their requirement like teaching different subjects , practice of tables and rhymes ,drawing practice and supervision ,awareness program on how to save energy how to protect environment .
Teacher’s Day celebration
On 5th September, DLLE students visit to NGO where small children of age group 7 to 12 years were taught how to make cards for the teacher’s day. Our students celebrate teachers day by felicitating and paying respect to our college professors by wishing and giving them teachers day card .
First Term Training Programme
Field coordinator of Mumbai University visits our college to conduct 1st term training programme for DLLE students . Field coordinator explains all the projects with the help of PPT .
Initiative to save environment – Go Green Breath Clean
This events is graced by the experts in the related area .Department organizes seminar related to the environment topics .Students are divided into different teams each prepare the model and poster on how to save environment and presentation. Best team is awarded .
Department send students for Beach Cleaning Drive . Last year our students went to Prabh Devi beach for cleaning .
Nios awareness program at college level and community level
Students who opt NIOS project, make power point presentation regarding the NIOS and present before the students .After that department organize awareness program for all non-teaching staff and their relatives where students provide the information about NIOS system ,motivate them to continue their education through open schooling system and also give them form .
This program is also conducted at community level where students visit to slum and chawl area and give awareness about National institute of open schooling for all age group people who want to continue education with job.
HUNAR Fest
It is intra college fest organized by DLLE and for only students of DLLE and for underprivileged children from NGO. It is two days fest . From its modest beginnings in 2012 ,Hunar is organised every year .Hunar usually features various events as per university projects requirement and also provides platform to the DLLE students to show case their Talant (Hunar).
First day – Fest day begins with the inauguration .It is inaugurated by renowned personality like social worker or celebrity in the auditorium followed by various competitions organized to motivate NGO children like singing ,dancing ,rhyming and drawing in which small children participate and also show their talent . We also organizes lunch and gift for the small children . Children who win the competition are awarded with certificates and attractive prizes .
Second day - It includes various activities Poster competition, Fabric painting competition, Debate competition, Elocution, Rangoli and Essay writing singing , street play best out of waste model and poster Exhibition . Where all students from DLLE unit participate in all the competitions .Experts are invited to judge the events.
The closing ceremony is also organized, where all the participants and the winners were awarded with certificates and prizes . All the heads of various departments of the organising committee were also given certificates for their excellent work. Over all students really enjoy for being the part of the fest under the guidance of In-charge professors .We invite university field coordinator for motivating our students and prize distribution program.
Second term training program –In the second training program university field coordinator is invited to give training about how to prepare final report and project.
Udaan Intercollege university fest –Udaan is the intercollegiate Fest organized by DLLE University of Mumbai in the month of January and February, in which many colleges participate in the two competitions – poster competition and street play competition .Our college participate every year in these two competitions and usually win first ,second or second runner up in both competitions . All participants are awarded certificates and trophy to the winner .
Project submission –In the month of February all students prepare report and projects on the basis of their opted projects and submit .
Evaluation of the projects – All projects are checked by student managers, in-charge professors of DLLE and field coordinator and finally approved by department of Mumbai university .Than students are awarded 10 additional marks and certificate of Mumbai University.
In this way through this program and department every year large no of enrolled students get benefits .
